LEARN GUITAR FROM WHEREVER YOU ARE

Online guitar lessons don't have to feel like a compromise. I teach one-to-one guitar lessons from my dedicated home studio in Stockport, using a professional setup designed to make online lessons as clear, interactive and useful as possible. Every lesson is tailored to you: the music you enjoy, what you want to achieve and the time you realistically have available to practise. Whether you're picking up a guitar for the first time, returning to it after years away or looking to take your playing further, we'll build your lessons around where you are and where you want to go.

MORE THAN JUST A ZOOM CALL

An online guitar lesson should feel like a proper music lesson, not simply a video call with a guitar in the background.

We work together live via Zoom, with plenty of opportunity to demonstrate techniques, work through songs, discuss your playing and explore the details that will help you improve.

My experience as a professional musician and teacher means lessons can go beyond simply showing you where to put your fingers. We'll work on the musical understanding behind what you're playing, helping you develop the skills and confidence to become a more independent guitarist.

LEARN THE MUSIC YOU LOVE

Learning guitar is much more rewarding when you're working towards music you actually enjoy playing.

Whether you want to learn your favourite songs, improve your technique, understand music theory, develop your improvisation or work towards a specific musical goal, lessons can be shaped around what interests you.

I'll help you understand not just what to play, but why it works, giving you the knowledge and skills to apply what you learn to other music too.

A STRUCTURED APPROACH TO ONLINE LEARNING

Online lessons work best when you have a clear idea of what you're working towards. That's why I take a structured approach to lessons, while still keeping them flexible enough to respond to your progress and interests.

We'll work on practical playing alongside the theory, technique and musical understanding that help you become a more confident guitarist.

Between lessons, you'll have clear things to work on so that your practice time has direction and purpose. The aim is to help you make steady progress while gradually becoming more independent in your playing.

WHAT MY STUDENTS SAY

★★★★★
“My daughter has virtual guitar lessons every week and has made amazing progress. She's now reached Grade 5! She loves the lessons and loves playing. Jonny is a great teacher. I'd highly recommend him!”

Guy Rogers

Parent

★★★★★
“After a couple of decades of neglect I started online guitar lessons with Jonny, having built some basic skills but also bad habits in my teens. Jonny has a truly impressive depth of knowledge of music theory as well as a very effective and practical approach to teaching. I not only started to improve from day one but, more importantly, I fell back in love with playing my guitar. He has a soft and warm demeanour but also challenges me in a good way.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need any previous experience?

Not at all. Online lessons are suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced guitarists. We'll start from wherever you are and work towards your goals.

What equipment do I need?

You'll need a guitar, a computer, tablet or phone with a reliable internet connection, and Zoom. I'll guide you through anything else you need to get set up for your first lesson.

Can you teach children online?

Yes. I've taught children and young people for many years, both privately and through schools. Online lessons can work particularly well for students who are comfortable learning from home.

Can I learn songs during online lessons?

Absolutely. Learning songs is an important part of many lessons. We can work through the parts you find difficult while also using the song to develop your technique and musical understanding.

How often should I have lessons?

Most students have lessons weekly or fortnightly. The right frequency depends on your goals, availability and how much time you have to practise between lessons.
