Guitar Lessons in Stockport & South Manchester

I am so thankful that I found Jonny as my guitar teacher. I have my lessons via video call due to my current location and this isn't a blocker at all. When we first met he went through what I currently knew, gave me some tips and exercises to build on my current knowledge and also wanted to understand my goals and we have very structured lessons on basic guitar foundations with music theory and every lesson I have a brain click moment which gives me so much motivation to carry on playing. Jonny is a really good teacher. He has great patience and understands that at times life gets in the way of practice and under such circumstances is always encouraging. He is also good in developing my knowledge of music theory alongside playing songs and having fun, and without really realising it my progress has been steady and fun. It doesn’t matter what age, what stage you are at or how much time you have, Jonny is adaptable to your needs.I for one look forward to my regular weekly lessons and the musical adventure this takes me on.

I'm 23 and I've been having lessons fortnightly with Jonny for several months now and it's been great, something I look forward to. I'd been self teaching for about a year before but wanted to avoid learning bad habits so started on lessons.With doing lessons remote it's been a bit strange but Jonny has been great at making it feel really comfortable and natural, I'm definitely on the shyer side with regards to improv and creativity but Jonny has pushed me and I've enjoyed learning. Overall the details are above to read but the short and sweet is I'm learning and it's fun, and what more can you ask for! :)

Really enjoying my lessons. Jonny is friendly, supportive, patient and enthusiastic. Lessons are currently remote, but it is working much better than I had anticipated; I forget that we are not in the same room. Lovin' it.

My 15 year old son has been having lessons with Jonny for 6 months now. He'd previously got to Grade 6 Classical guitar and his interest had wained. He's now learning contemporary songs at Grade 5 and 6 acoustic rock guitar with Jonny, he's enjoying it again and doing the GCSE music course. Based upon my experience and the progress my son has made - I'd thoroughly recommend him.

Jonny is truly one of a kind and we just can't recommend him enough! Our 8 year old has been studying with him for 4 years now. Jonny was (and is) instrumental for building our son's skills, knowledge confidence and appreciation for music. He has the most amazing natural ability to teach young children through play and enthusiasm with an engaging, constructive and warm approach. Given how his greatly patient and smiley persona is coupled with a wonderfully encouraging pedagogy, it was only expected that our 5 year old daughter couldn't wait to start recently her own learning journey with him too.

Jonny has taught my two children guitar for almost two years and they have certainly progressed well. They enjoy their lessons and Jonny is an enthusiastic, motivated and patient teacher. The lessons are well structured and it is clear what they need to practice. Lesson notes and guidance is provided after each lesson. I would have no hesitation in recommending Jonny as a tutor.

Jonny has been teaching my son since August 2019. Initially lessons was in person however they moved to online lessons in March 2020 due to the national lockdown. Olly had played guitar previously however he had been without a tutor for a few months so when he had his first lesson with Jonny he was out of practice and needed to bit of inspiration to get him interested in playing again. Over the last 18 months my son, under Jonny’s guidance, achieved his Grade 5 and is well on his way to working towards his Grade 6. Jonny has provided him with professional, structured and fun lessons. He is an excellent communicator and my son looks forward to his lessons. I have no hesitation in recommending Jonny to anyone looking to learn guitar or advance their skills.

Like so many people at the start of lockdown 2020 I decided to see if I could carve out some time for myself and learn something new. I talked to my husband about perhaps giving the trumpet a go and within days he bought me a beautiful acoustic guitar- the prospect of lockdown, ,me, him and a trumpet clearly too much to take! For a few months me and the guitar bumbled along – my son plays and while getting him to try and teach me was the perfect excuse to schedule more zoom calls to see him in reality it was a bit like teaching your kid to drive – literally in reverse. Professional help was needed!. Jonny was recommended to me and after an initial chat we scheduled some lessons. So, I should say that I ask too many questions, don’t practise enough and am rhythm challenged! None of which has phased Jonny so far. He has been patient and encouraging and there hasn’t been one week where I haven’t wanted to have the next lesson.  Its hard– but Jonny’s style of teaching is helping me stay engaged and I know I am making progress. Its literally like I’m learning another language and I think there is a high chance I would have given up with another teacher. The lessons are the right balance of technique, theory and playing. So far all my lessons have been virtual and Jonny’s set up is great – I certainly don’t think I’ve missed anything not being face to face. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Jonny.
